2016 student election nominations released
Seventeen tickets (student political parties) will be contesting the 2016 University of Melbourne Student Union (UMSU) elections.
As reported in Parkville Station it looks like the mega-deal being negotiated between four of the biggest factions has not worked out, and as things stand, we’re in for a robust contest.
You can download the full list of nominations, courtesy of the Returning Officers.
The tickets contesting the election are:
- Tickets contesting multiple opposed officer positions

The election has already seen naming controversy, with the single-candidate ticket “Smore!” complaining the name of the ticket “More!” is too similar. The Returning Officer dismissed the complaint. “More!” was known as “More Activities!” in previous elections.
The elections will take place from the 5th – 9th September, 2016.
We’ll bring you full coverage of both the nomination process, and the rest of the election, in our print edition.
